One goal of the Cleveland County Soil and Water Conservation District is to educate the public about the
importance of conserving our soils and natural resources. To achieve this goal, district staff will gladly speak at
schools, civic groups, churches, and other events. We can teach interactive lessons to elementary school children
about soils and water cycles or to high schools students about soil types and weathering. The district also
conducts a 6th grade essay contest about conservation through local schools, as well as a poster contest in the
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade levels. For civic groups, we can talk about the agricultural history of Cleveland County,
farmland preservation, land stewardship, and current conservation efforts.
