Civil Division

 

Mission

The Civil Division of the Sheriff's Office falls under the command of the Patrol Captain.  This unit is responsible for the service and execution of various processes issued by and for the Courts of North Carolina.  There are five main types of civil processes issued by the Courts in North Carolina.  These processes are summonses, judgments, pleadings, court orders and reports.

Operations

The unit consists of six officers, one sergeant, one corporal and four deputies.  They are responsible for the service of approximately 800 papers per month.  In 2005 the unit made over 18,500 attempted services and served over 7100 processes.  Additional duties include the service of Domestic Violence Orders and Evictions as well as the collection of money judgments issued by the courts.
