The Cleveland County Health Department provides social work services to clients with special needs which may be cultural, economic, environmental, intellectual, physical, or social. Services includes:
- Counseling on:
- Sexual values and birth control methods including sterilization and infertility problems
- Pregnancy alternatives
- Sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS
- Alcohol and drug abuse
- Communication skills and family relationships
- grief, particularly those who have experienced stillbirth, miscarriage, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and other infant deaths
- Adjustment to pregnancy, parenthood, and adolescence
- Assessment of needs of maternity patients as well as those with chronic disease or who are handicapped
- Conducting home visits for pregnant women who have not received prenatal care
- Conducting workshops in the community upon request. Subject areas include child abuse and neglect, stress management, teenage conflicts, family relationships and substance abuse
- Providing information and referral of clients to the variety of services offered by other community agencies in the area.
