Cleveland County Creek Week Overview

Creek Week is a week-long celebration of the streams, lakes, and rivers that connect and sustain our communities. The First Annual Cleveland County Creek Week took place on April 11–18th, 2026, bringing together local municipalities, environmental organizations, and community members for a shared mission: protecting and enjoying our local waterways.

Throughout the week, participants took part in a variety of recreational, educational, and volunteer activities designed to inspire appreciation for our natural resources and promote clean, healthy waters across Cleveland County.

Organizations, businesses, or community groups interested in partnering or hosting an event during the 2027 Creek Week are encouraged to contact our Creek Week Coordinator, Amanda Strickland, for more information on how to get involved.

FAQs

What is Creek Week?

Creek Week is a county-wide event that is intended to bring awareness to the value of our water resources. Through positive educational and recreational activities we hope individuals will gain a greater appreciation for this natural resource, and be more inclined to protect and keep clean our streams and rivers.

When is Creek Week?

The 2nd Annual Cleveland County Creek Week will be held April 17-24th, 2027!

Creek Weeks have been around for decades, but only a handful of NC counties participate. Most NC counties host their Creek Week in March or April in conjunction with World Water Day. Cleveland County chose this week in April as it's the week during Earth Day and what a better way to celebrate!

Who administers Creek Week?

Cleveland County Creek Week is a partnership between city, county, and state agencies, local businesses, and non-profits. Planning meetings are administered through the Cleveland County Soil and Water Conservation District office. However, the success of Creek Week is completely dependent on Partner participation.

What is a Partner?

A Partner is a group that organizes or helps facilitate an event that is held during Cleveland County Creek Week. Partners may include city, county, or state agencies, educational institutions, businesses, and non-profit groups. Partners should be those involved with water management, water quality, education, conservation, or companies whose work is dependent on water resources.

What is a Sponsor?

A sponsor is a group or individual who contributes financially either directly or indirectly to programs that support Cleveland County Creek Week. Sponsors may provide funding for a specific item or program or just donate a prize. All prize donations can go through the Cleveland County Soil and Water Conservation District Office.
