The Honorable Betsy S. Harnage, Cleveland County Register of Deeds, and the Honorable Ashlyn T. Harris, Cleveland County Magistrate, have once again partnered to host Cleveland County’s 3rd Annual Sweetheart Saturday.
On Saturday, February 14, 2026, the Register of Deeds Office and the Magistrate’s Office offered wedding ceremonies for interested couples at the Cleveland County Administration Building, located at 311 E. Marion Street in Shelby. Ceremonies were conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
“Currently, wedding services are only offered at the courthouse on weekdays, which can be a barrier for some couples,” said Betsy Harnage, Register of Deeds. “Sweetheart Saturday provides a wonderful opportunity for couples seeking an affordable and intimate ceremony.”
Ceremonies were conducted on a first-come, first-served basis and were limited to the couple and up to two witnesses.
“Our staff truly enjoys hosting this event,” Harnage added. “Couples will receive a small treat to share, and our generous sponsors provide small gifts to help celebrate the occasion.”
Marriage license applications were to be completed prior to the event and are available online at www.clevelandcounty.com/rod. The cost of a marriage license is $60, and the ceremony fee is $50 (cash only).
Applicants must present a valid photo ID and Social Security number. Both parties must appear in person to obtain a marriage license.
