County Animal Services Urges Adoptions

Cleveland County Animal Services has received an abnormally high influx of dogs this week. Within three days, the shelter received 42 dogs. Thirty of the dogs came from an ahimal hoarding situation, five were dropped off outside of the shelter after hours and seven more came in as strays or owner surrenders. The 30 dogs were not socialized and some were aggressive. Given their issues, they are not suitable to be adopted.

Cleveland County Animal Services contacted rescue groups in an effort to place some of these dogs with rescues. Several rescue groups did take some of the dogs and they also took several other dogs that had been in the shelter awaiting adoption. The five dogs that were dropped off outside of the shelter are suitable for adoption and will be available on Friday, May 10 after 11:30 AM.

We urgently need the community to adopt dogs from the Shelter.  Adoption fees are $40 for dogs and $20 for cats and include spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping. The Shelter is located at 1601 Airport Road in Shelby and is open from 10 AM to 4 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday. The Shelter is closed on Wednesdays.
