Soldiers Treated to Southern Hospitality in Shelby

On Sunday, Sept. 19, 70 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army from Fort Campbell, Kentucky stopped in Shelby to spend the night at the Shelby City Park. They were on their way to eastern North Carolina to help with disaster relief from Hurricane Florence. While they were here, Wes Westmoreland and a group of Shelby friends provided the soldiers with some true southern hospitality by having them over to Wes’ house for barbecue and a cookout.

The 101st Airborne Division is a specialized modular light infantry division of the US Army trained for air assault operations.
