On Saturday December 7, 2019, a deputy with the Community Interdiction Team of the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office stopped a tractor trailer driven by a Hispanic male traveling south bound on Interstate 85 for failure to maintain lane and impeding the flow of traffic. Based on the officer's training and experience and a K-9 alert, the tractor trailer was moved to a safe location for a search. During the search, approximately $3 million dollars in cash was located in barrels containing raw pork shoulders.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office has reason to believe that the money was headed to the US/Mexico border and also believes the money was a result of drug sales throughout the region. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has been called in to help with the investigation.
