Cleveland County Animal Services Expands Hours and Welcomes New Staff

SHELBY, N.C.– Effective July 18th, Animal Services will be open Tuesdays until 6 pm. New operating hours will be as follows:

            Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday:  11am-4pm

            Tuesday :  11am-6pm

            Saturday:  11am-3pm (excluding holiday weekends)

“We are extending our hours on Tuesdays to facilitate more adoption and lost pet reclaims during after-work hours,” said Brad Gates, Animal Services Director. “As a reminder, residents can also bring their cat or dog in for rabies vaccinations during regular operating hours.”

Adoption fees are $10 for cats and $40 for dogs. This includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations. In order to receive services, a valid photo ID must be shown. Annual rabies vaccinations are available for $10 each.

CCAS continues to accept applications online for new volunteers and fosters. Volunteer orientations are held monthly for residents and youth who are interested in walking and bathing dogs, interacting with cats, organizing trail cleanups, and more. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer hours.

We are also pleased to announce, Cleveland County Animal Services onboarded 7 new staff members in June, including an Assistant Director, veterinarian, registered vet tech, 2 officers, and 2 kennel attendants.

“We are so excited to recruit several people with the experience and expertise our program has needed,” said Brad. “They bring so much to the table, as we are building a program better suited to helping the pets and people of our community!”

Cleveland County Animal Services is located at 1601 Airport Road in Shelby. The visitor parking area can be found just past the shelter building.
